'The Past is All Around Us' – Exciting Heritage and Wildlife Project for Castle Acre

The Parish Council has secured a substantial grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for a one-year project to help local volunteers discover more about the history and wildlife of Castle Acre.

While the Castle, Priory ruins, Church and Bailey Gate draw visitors and are well-documented, there has been very little research into the other areas of our historic conservation village. This is your opportunity to undertake archaeological surveys, investigations and research into old documents to discover the village's hidden secrets including the historical artefacts beneath the molehills on Priory Meadow! Undertaking practical conservation tasks or recording the birds, plants, insects etc. that live alongside us could lead to new or improved wildlife habitats.

There will be free training sessions and workshops to give everyone across all age groups the skills they need to take part. You don't need to have any previous knowledge or experience. The Primary school will be involved in activities and supplied with educational source materials. The programme will run from November 2021 to October 2022 with plenty of activities to appeal to different interests. See the list below and click on 'get PDF' to learn about each activity (workshop/event/investigation). Most activities in the village hall will be from 10.00 to 15.30 but exact times for all activities will be sent with all details two weeks beforehandí.

If you would like to join the mailing list or to book an activity, please register your interest with the Project Manager, Anne Mason at anne.providence@outlook.com

Please note that your email address will not be used for any purpose other than this project, in accordance with GDPR.
